The lovers of blood ‘sports’ turned to dogfighting to satisfy their fancy, breeding the large, mastiff-type bulldogs to smaller working terriers to get dogs both smaller and more agile, easier to keep and to hide, but just as willing to attack and fight to the death. With the rise of the kennel clubs and the desire to distinguish dogs by looks and pedigree as well as by performance, this ‘bull and terrier’ type eventually divided into many official breeds. They all share the same ancestry and function, distinguishing themselves mostly by slight differences in appearance.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is, like all the ‘bully’ breeds, one of this group of descendants of the British ‘bull and terrier’ type fighting bulldogs. Once imported into the United States, it was bred up to be bigger again, and again used in baiting animals ... See More

breed bans are not difficult to enforce. Residents report new and lactating pitbulls to the authorities. Pitbull bans raise property values by attracting and maintaining quality residents, and reduce gang related violence and bans are much more humane as the overbred pitbulls are not dumped on local shelters to be euthanized.. so the bans are also more fiscally responsible. City after city with bans that have been voted on by the local residents have been overwhelming supported. Out of the area unscrupulous nonprofits should not come in and dictate local laws. The supposed advocates keep pitbulls dying in shelters, and dog fighters pits, as it is the bread and butter of many. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/14/us/animal-charity-investigation/

I really hope you get your signatures. They should all be banned and are not house pets.

Totally support Cindy's actions. People should NOT have to live as prisoners in their homes or risk having their pets or family members torn to pieces. Laws should support the public and the public's safety, rather than special interest groups. Pit bull owners have had decades to get their acts together and act responsibly. We are now at a 773% increase of fatal and disfiguring attacks..... I think it is time we take our communities BACK. They can whine about it all they want. Would the city give in if drunk drivers suddenly protested that they drive drunk all the time and never killed anybody? Would punish the deed make sense in that scenario? It doesn't in this one either.
