  • Cheryl Brown This kind of attack I agree this dog needs to be put down. While a police dog is a huge investment for a community ($10,000 to $15,000 on average) attacking a child while "off duty" indicates the animal is not temperamentally suited to the work. We need laws that hold the trainers and breeders of these dogs responsible for their product.

  • Harve Morgan I saw an incident with another Rialto K9 at a rummage sale for the K9s. Went after a woman to hump her, she was on her period as it turns out. I asked her afterwards. I helped the handler get the dog off.

  • Gail L Rosbach YOu asked her if she was on her period?! And your still living? SEriously, I have heard that about dogs, but its not an excuse to knock her down and start humping her. Have heard that women should not go hiking in the woods durfing that time either. The scent will attract bears. Not sure if that is true or not.

  • Harve Morgan Oh yes, it has been a thing I have done for decades when it comes to an attack. As kids in the country, women were told not to go into the woods on their period or get around the male hogs/cows. Seriously. It's not an old wives tale. Even people having problems with their unaltered dogs, often the bad behavior will correspond with that time of the month. I have asked women to keep logs of bad behavior or aggressive behavior in relation to their times. If her husband had been with her, I probably wouldn't have asked.

  • Cheryl Brown Pheromones are not interchangeable, every species has their own. If the dog wanted to "hump" a woman that happened to be on her "period" it had nothing to do with her cycle, which in humans is a part of the cycle where a female is not fertile. When a dog is on heat her discharge carries pheromones that indicate she is fertile. I would guess that the "smell of blood" could cause an animal to react but not for mating behavior.

  • Jean Olszewski So true , Cheryl . A male will usually only breed after she ovulates and the eggs are ripe. Most people don't understand the cycle, and that is why so many men having a certain dog breed force them into rape stands. Totally disgusting behavior .

  • Cheryl Brown The so called "rape stands" used to breed fighting pit bulls is because some of the females are so aggressive they will attack the male, causing serious damage, even when fertile. This aggression is the trait the breeder wants so they restrain the female to get her impregnated.

  • Harve Morgan Cheryl Brown Not meaning to get gross here but blood is blood. It's the blood that attracts not the pheromones.

  • Harve Morgan I think the old timers felt that prey animals smelled the blood and that was why they thought it was dangerous.

  • Cheryl Brown No, Harve, it's pheromones that stimulate animals into procreative behavior in animals. This has been proven many years ago through studies where pheromones were distilled and then used to trigger behaviors in specific species. Hunters use doe pheromon...See More
